Dato’ Dr Venugopal Balchand is a Consultant Heart and Lung Surgeon at Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur and Assunta Hospital Petaling Jaya.

To date he has performed close to 5000 surgical procedures. He is currently the President of the Medico-Legal Society of Malaysia (MLSM). He is a member of the group looking at the introduction of the Mental Capacity Act in Malaysia and Chairman of the Focus Group looking at the Decriminalisation of attempted Suicides. He frequently contributes articles of social interest at both Free Malaysia Today and The Malaysian Insight. He is also a member of the Preliminary Investigation Committee of the Malaysian Medical Council on disciplinary issues.

He loves to let his hair down, or what little is left of it, at every opportunity.
